Thank you, Josh Radnor, for avoiding a middle-aged man's sex fantasy

Liberal Arts has the ingredients for a groan-inducing sex romp, but it’s surprisingly sweet and knows its characters, settings, and the foibles for both.

When a professor from his Kenyon-like Ohio alma mater retires, Jesse journeys back for the celebration and meets Zibby (Elizabeth Olsen), a sophomore, and the two begin an epistolary romance. It all sounds precious and twee, but Radnor is likable enough and his screenplay is smart enough not to fall into the trap of becoming a middle-aged man’s sex fantasy.
